This is Shenzhen, China (一等奖)

By Selena Zhang(张芮源)

Skyscrapers hug the sky,

Standing tall and proud,

While cleaning robots roam the streets

And mechanical gadgets deliver food;

A gentle breeze blows in from the sea,

Which the sun is casting a fire glow upon;

Carrying the scent of salt

Over to the trees and flowers

Flourishing ever so elegantly.

Among futuristic advancements,

Are sprinkles of nature’s beauty;

Between steel walls,

Delicate petals bloom,

Bustling streets

Alongside peaceful ponds,

Whirring machines and engines

Are met with luscious greenery.

Here, technology meets nature;

Here, intellectuality meets peacefulness;

This is Shenzhen, China,

Once a small fish village,

Now a charming metropolis.

A School that Breathes (二等奖)

By Callie Gao (高子璇)

This Chinese school isn’t a factory, it’s alive. Perched on a mountaintop, it breathes with greenery, from towering courtyard trees to a sprawling rooftop garden called the “Little Dragonfly Farm.” Instead of headache-inducing fluorescent lights, students pass sun-soaked fruit and herbs at their fingertips. They stay with the same classmates all day, forming tight bonds through shared meals, lessons, and laughter. With open halls and leafy views, the school feels more like a sanctuary than a classroom. Unlike America’s locked, jail-like schools, this one thrives. Bursting with light, life, and endless possibility.

Shenzhen Bay Park (二等奖)

By Sophie Shuyan Chen (陈书妍)

Shenzhen’s beauty stretches beyond just nature and humanity, but rather a place where both can cherish one another; Shenzhen Bay Park nurtures a vibrant community where animals, humans, and Mother Nature coexist harmoniously. Humans and nature work together to help make this world greener and cleaner while paving the way for a brighter future in both worlds by taking care of each other. People relax under nature’s gift. Such a place is a reminder of our potential if we balance our lives with Mother Nature. Shenzhen Bay Park is the beginning of a fresh start and an inspiration to humanity.

OTC Primary School, Shenzhen (三等奖)

By Tansy Yu (余丹婵)

My school holds memories,
 a place where I’ve grown and changed.
 Laughter echoes through the halls,
 and the playground is always alive,
 except on Mondays,
 when we run to start the day.

In class, our voices rise as one.
 Our school rests in a forest,
 watched by five tall banyan trees.

To the left, the red and green track;
 to the right, Grade 1’s garden and laughter.
 The motto carved in stone reminds us.

My favorite place is our garden.
 flowers bloom, a waterwheel turns,
 lemons, mint, and blossoms thrive.
 Labor here connects us to nature,
 refreshing, real, and full of life.

Shenzhen: The City of the Future (三等奖)

By Bella Lee (李贝拉)

Shenzhen is a vibrant and innovative metropolis, home to leading technology companies such as Tencent and Huawei. Their innovations enhance residents’ lives, like the creation of driverless buses and intelligent traffic systems. Furthermore, Shenzhen is a champion of sustainability, actively developing green energy to power its eco-friendly modernization efforts. The remarkable transformation of Shenzhen from its beginnings as a small fishing village into the bustling global city we know today is primarily thanks to the strategic leadership and consistent support of the government, making it a leading city of the future through its focus on technological innovation and environmental sustainability.

Taking A Bite Out Of Shen Zhen (三等奖)

By Alex Huang (黄四之)

Shenzhen’s culture is a vibrant blend of unique influences, with food playing a central role. Watching a video about making vegetable and egg dumplings evoked memories of bustling street vendors back in China, where the aromas and flavors are truly captivating. Beyond its culinary scene, Shenzhen is home to beautiful spaces like Shenzhen Bay Park, which harmoniously combines nature and urban life as shown in the video. The city’s rapid modernization also complements its rich traditions, allowing ancient practices to thrive alongside contemporary innovations. Overall, Shenzhen offers a remarkable cultural experience that celebrates community, creativity, and the joy of delicious food.
